What are you doing? Twitter
Whether it is social networking stripped of the user profiles, IM without the direct conversation, or a micro-blogging platform, Twitter is clever; however, it has the typical weakness of web applications- lack of follow-through on execution. Right now it is one more site to log onto, one more application, but as an central repository for all things status?
- @facebook Facebook status is perhaps the most obvious derivation of twitter.
- But somehow, even with the Twitter Facebook app installed, if I update my Twitter status it does not update my Facebook status.
- It does not even take my Facebook status and use that for a Twitter status.
- And, worst of all, it does not populate the news feed with my Twitter updates unless my friend, too, has the Twitter application installed.
- So instead of replacing the Facebook status, or acting as an adjunct to it, it basically is another status to report.
- That makes me sad.
- update on October 3
- The twitter app for facebook now updates status.
- That makes me happy.
- @instant messenger What about my instant messenger status?
- They let you add Twitter as a buddy to make it easier to update your status from your IM client.
- But it does not automatically read your IM status as your buddy.
- Is it really my buddy?
- You have to message your new Twitter IM buddy instead with a new status message.
- And you still have to set your IM status separately.
- So now I am setting my status, or making my pithy commentary, in Facebook, Adium, and Twitter.
- That makes me sadder.
